Butterfly Suncatchers For Kids

Hey friends. Hope you’re having a great weekend so far filled with lots of fun and crafting! If you’re looking for a new and exciting craft project to try, then you’re in the right place! Have you ever tried craft projects with Black Glue? If not, you’re in for a treat. Today I’m excited to share with you Butterfly Suncatchers for Kids.
Black Glue is such a fun medium to work with for crafts. I must admit, I’ve been a little obsessed with it lately. Oh…..and did I mention it’s fun for the kids too! It’s incredibly easy to make? And you can find the instructions right here in this blog post. Trust me, you’ll want to keep this on hand for all sorts of creative projects. The possibilities are endless and the way it makes the colors pop is just stunning.
But lets get back to the Butterfly Suncatchers. This craft is perfect for bringing a bit of summer into your home. The kids will love making these and be so proud to see their colorful creations hanging in the window, catching the sunlight and brightening up the room.
So let’s gather some supplies, make some black glue, and have some fun crafting.
Butterfly Suncatchers For Kids
What You Need
- Black Glue (find the recipe here)
- clear plastic sheets
- Sharpie markers
- scissors
- double sided tape
- free butterfly template

What To Do
Step 1
Begin by making your black glue if you don’t have any on hand. You can find the instructions to make it here. It’s super quick and easy. Just one part white glue and one part black acrylic craft paint.

Step 2
Draw a butterfly on white paper, or if you would rather use a template, you can use the free butterfly template that I’ve created. Tape the butterfly template underneath plastic sheet to use as a guide for the black glue.
Step 3
Trace the butterfly outline with your black glue. Let it dry over night.

Step 4
Once the black glue is dry, Use the sharpie markers to color in the empty spaces. You can color in each space a solid color, or experiment with blending the colors together, like I did in this Fall Leaf Suncatcher post

Step 5
Cut around the butterfly. This doesn’t have to be exact since it’s clear and won’t show once it’s on the window. Add a piece of double sided tape, hang in the window and enjoy!

Aren’t these butterflies simply stunning? I hope you have as much fun creating them as I did!
Until next time
