What You’ll Need

What to Do

Step 1

Your first step is to fold your green card stock in half and draw half of a leaf. That way, when you cut it out both sides will be the same. If you don’t consider yourself artistically inclined, and would rather use a template, I’ve created this FREE leaf template for you to print. Just print and cut out the leaf, then trace it onto the green cardstock, and cut out.

Step 2

Cut our your leaf, and with a green marker outline the leaf and draw on a few veins.

Step 3

Separate the paper towel into single layers. Each layer makes one caterpillar. Take your wooden skewer and roll the single layer of paper towel around it. When you get to the end, use some Elmer’s glue across the top to secure it in place. Let dry completely. It takes a little while to dry (too long for my liking!), so be patient or use a blow dryer to speed up the process.

Step 4

Once the paper towel is completely dry, with your hands on either side of the paper towel, push both sides towards the middle to form your caterpillar.

Step 5

Leave the paper towel on the skewer as you color the caterpillar…..it’s much easier! Now for the fun part. Get creative and color your caterpillar however you would like!

Step 6

Cut about an inch long piece of the green straw and glue it onto the leaf stem. NOTE: I found that using the glue gun made it much more secure. Cut an approximate six inch piece of a floral wire stem and insert through the straw. If you can’t find floral wire stems, you could use a piece of green card stock. Roll it small enough to fit inside the straw.

Step 6

With your glue gun, glue the back end of the caterpillar onto the green straw, and glue the head of the caterpillar onto the top end of the floral wire stick. Let it dry completely and have fun playing with your DIY moving caterpillar!
