Tissue Paper Shamrock Craft
What You’ll Need
- bleeding tissue paper
- latex gloves
- water
- mini spray bottle
- paint marker or sharpie
- paper cutter (optional)
- free Shamrock templates

Regular Tissue Paper vs. Bleeding Tissue Paper
- Regular Tissue Paper: This is the common tissue paper you find in gift bags, craft stores, and party supplies. It comes in lots of colors, but when you get it wet, it usually doesn’t release its color. Instead, it just wrinkles and tears. While it’s great for decorating, wrapping gifts, and certain craft projects, it won’t work for bleeding tissue paper art because the color stays locked in the paper.
- Bleeding Tissue Paper: This special type of tissue paper is designed to release its dye when it comes into contact with water. When you lay it on paper or another surface, spray or brush it with water, and then let it sit, the colors bleed and blend together, creating a watercolor-like effect. This makes it perfect for bleeding tissue paper art projects like our Tissue Paper Shamrock Craft!
Tip: Not all tissue paper is labeled as “bleeding,” so always check the packaging before buying.
Using bleeding tissue paper adds such a fun and unexpected element to crafting, and the results are always unique. It’s perfect for kids’ crafts, process art, and festive holiday projects like this one!
What To Do
Step 1
Download and print the free Shamrock templates to get started. choose between a patterned Shamrock, or plain Shamrock outline. If using the plain Shamrock you can use the paint pen to create a fun designed background. I will give you examples of both options so you can pick the one that inspires you most.

Step 2
If you’re using the smaller template, cut the page down the middle with a paper cutter.

Step 3
Cut the bleeding tissue into squares, and crumple each square

Step 4
Place your template on a baking sheet for easy clean up. With your mini spray bottle, give the shamrock template a mist of water to dampen it.

Step 5
Give your crumpled tissue a spray of water and place on top of the shamrock and press down. I wore gloves so my fingers didn’t stain. Since I was using multiple colors, I was sure to leave some white spaces. I just sprayed the tissue paper with water to release a bit more color onto the paper. Repeat these steps with each color you use.

Step 6
For the background, I used different colors, ripping them into various shapes. Spray the background with water, apply the tissue, and spray again once everything is in place. Set aside to dry.

Step 7
Once your picture is dry, remove the tissue to reveal a stunning Shamrock art project.

Patterned Background
Another fun alternative is to use the plain shamrock template but with a black paint pen draw a pattern on the background.

Spray the template and apply the bleeding tissue in the same way as the above instructions.

How fun was that? I absolutely love how vibrant the colors are! Let me know if you tried this Tissue Paper Shamrock craft with the kids. Be sure to post a picture of your creations in the comment section of my Pinterest pin. I’d love to see how beautiful your artwork turned out!
