St Patricks Day Suncatchers
Hey there crafty friends! Are you looking for a really fun and easy St. Patrick’s Day craft to do with the kids this weekend? You’re in luck! These St Patricks Day Suncatchers are the perfect way to celebrate the holiday! Not only are they super easy to create, but they look absolutely stunning hanging in the window
For this St. Patrick’s Day craft project we’ll be using black glue –and if you haven’t tried it before, you’re in for a treat. Black glue so fun to work and it’s fantastic for outlining shapes and leaving a guide making it easy for little ones to color in the spaces of their suncatcher. Once it dries, it creates a gorgeous stained glass effect that makes the colors really pop in the sunlight. These suncatchers look stunning in the sunlight!
I’ve done quite a few black glue projects, and they always turn out amazing! Once you see how your Shamrock Suncatchers come to life, you’ll be hooked too! If you’re curious, and want more fun ideas check out our Fall Leaf Suncatchers, and our Butterfly Suncatchers, and Valentine Heart Suncatchers We’ve also used black glue in some Christmas Art projects using the same technique.
To make things super easier, I’ve created a few St. Patrick’s Day templates for you to print and use. But if your little artists want to get creative they can draw their own shamrocks, rainbows, or even a leprechaun hat!
So, if you’re ready for a fun afternoon of making suncatchers, grab some black glue, gather the kids, and let’s get crafty with some fun St Patricks Day Suncatchers!

St Patricks Day Suncatchers
What You’ll Need
- clear plastic sheets
- Sharpie markers
- black glue (recipe here)
- scissors
- double sided tape
- free St. Patrick’s Day templates

What To Do
Step 1
Begin by making your black glue if you don’t have any on hand. You can find the instructions to make it here. It’s super quick and easy. Just one part white glue and one part black acrylic craft paint.

Step 2
Encourage the kids to draw some shamrocks or rainbows on white paper, or if you would rather use a ready made template, you can print the free St. Patrick’s Day template that I’ve created. Tape the template underneath the clear plastic sheet to use as a guide for the black glue.

Step 3
Trace the shamrock outline with your black glue. Let it dry over night.

Step 4
Once the black glue is dry, Use the sharpie markers to color in the empty spaces. You can color in each space a solid color, or experiment with blending the colors together, like I did in this Fall Leaf Suncatcher post. That’s the fun part in my opinion!

My Process For Blending Colors
You can definitely get creative, have fun and do your own thing. But if you’re interested in how I blended the leaf colors then continue reading.
I started with coloring most of the section light green. Then added a bit of dark green to a few spots in the section. You don’t need a lot of the dark green. It really spreads out when you’re blending
With the light green marker, I colored over the dark green pulling it down into the light green.

Step 5
Cut around your artwork. This doesn’t have to be exact since it’s clear and won’t show once it’s on the window. Add a piece of double sided tape and hang in the window. Enjoy your stunning creations!

Wasn’t that a fun St. Patrick’s Day craft? I absolutely love how vibrant the colors pop against the black glue! Let me know if you tried this craft with the kids. Be sure to post a picture of your creations in the comment section of my Pinterest pin. I’d love to see how beautiful your suncatchers turned out!
Until next time
