Valentine Heart Suncatchers
Hey friends! Are you looking for a fun and easy Valentine’s Day craft to enjoy with the kids this weekend? These Valentine Heart Suncatchers are the perfect activity to celebrate ‘love day’, and are sure to be a hit! They’re not only simple to create, but they’re absolutely stunning. The vibrant colors will shine beautifully in the sunlight and the kids will be so excited to display their creations as Valentine’s Day window decor.
For this Valentine craft project we’ll be using black glue –and if you haven’t tried it before, you’re in for a treat. Black glue so fun to work with and it’s fantastic for outlining shapes and leaving a guide making it easy for little ones to color in the spaces of their suncatcher. I love how the black glue gives the suncatchers a bold, stained glass effect, that makes the colors pop.
I have to admit, I’m a bit obsessed with black glue projects, being sure to make some for every holiday. Once you see how gorgeous these Valentine Heart Suncatchers turn out, you’ll be hooked too! If you’re looking for more inspiration, be sure to check out our Fall Leaf Suncatchers, Christmas Suncatchers and our Butterfly Suncatchers. Each one comes with free templates to make crafting even easier. We’ve also used black glue for some of our watercolor projects, like our Black Glue Art Projects, and Christmas Art projects —they’re just as fun and beautiful!
To make this project even easier, I’ve created a few Valentine Heart templates for you. Whether your kids use the templates or draw their own heart designs, they’ll have a blast bringing their suncatchers to life with vibrant colors.
So gather your supplies, pick out your favorite Sharpie markers, and let’s get crafting! These Valentine Heart Suncatchers are the perfect way to spend some quality time with the kids, brighten up your windows and your Valentine’s Day.

Valentine Heart Suncatchers
What You’ll Need
- clear plastic sheets
- Sharpie markers
- black glue (recipe here)
- scissors
- double sided tape
- free heart templates

What To Do
Step 1
Begin by making your black glue if you don’t have any on hand. You can find the instructions to make it here. It’s super quick and easy. Just one part white glue and one part black acrylic craft paint.

Step 2
Encourage the kids to draw some Valentine hearts on white paper, or if you would rather use a ready made template, you can print the free hearts template that I’ve created. Tape the template underneath the clear plastic sheet to use as a guide for the black glue.

Step 3
Trace the Valentine heart outline with your black glue. Let it dry over night.

Step 4
Once the black glue is dry, Use the sharpie markers to color in the empty spaces. You can color in each space a solid color, or experiment with blending the colors together, like I did in this Fall Leaf Suncatcher post. That’s the fun part in my opinion! For these suncatchers, I chose to color each space with a solid color.

Step 5
Cut around your artwork. This doesn’t have to be exact since it’s clear and won’t show once it’s on the window. Add a piece of double sided tape and hang in the window. Enjoy your stunning creations!

Wasn’t that a fun Valentine’s day craft? I absolutely love how vibrant the colors pop against the black glue! Let me know if you tried this craft with the kids. Be sure to post a picture of your creations in the comment section of my Pinterest pin. I’d love to see how beautiful your suncatchers turned out!
Until next time
