Shrinky Dink Christmas Ornaments for Kids
Hey there friends! I trust you’ve had a fantastic weekend so far. Mine was filled with crafting of course and I just couldn’t wait to share this one with you! Shrinky Dink Christmas Ornaments for kids have got to be one of the cutest crafts I’ve ever done!
If you’ve never tried Shrinky Dinks before, trust me you’re in for a treat. These little plastic sheets shrink down in the oven, creating the cutest miniature versions of your kids’ artwork. It’s such a fun craft that’s perfect for little ones and the end result is always a keepsake worth hanging on the tree!
We made a similar project at Father’s Day, Shrinky Dink Keychains. They turned out so adorable, I just had to create them again for a Christmas Ornament.
Shrinky Dink Christmas ornaments are one of those projects that never gets old, no matter how many times you do it. The kids will get so excited watching their designs shrink and transform, and you’ll get just as much joy out of seeing their faces light up. I absolutely love that it’s their own artwork on the ornament, which makes such a great keepsake. If you’re looking for an easy and budget-friendly holiday craft that doubles as a memory maker, Shrinky Dinks are a must-try.
Now, I know that Christmas time can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming, especially when you’ve got a mile-long holiday to-do list. But trust me, this Shrinky Dink craft is super simple and doesn’t require a lot of fancy materials. All you need are some Shrinky Dink plastic sheets (you can find these at most craft stores or order them online), and some permanent markers, and of course your oven.
Another thing I love about Shrinky Dink Christmas ornaments is that they make fantastic gifts. The kids can create them for grandparents, teachers, or even for a friend. They add that personal touch that people will really appreciate. Who doesn’t love receiving something that was crafted with love?
So, grab your supplies, gather the kids, and let’s get started on these adorable Shrinky Dink Christmas ornaments!

Shrinky Dink Christmas Ornaments for Kids
What You’ll Need
- Shrinky Dink plastic sheets (we used white)
- Sharpie markers
- hole punch
- twine
- ornament template

What To Do
Step 1
Download and print the free ornament template then trace it onto your Shrinky Dink plastic sheet. The ornaments measure roughly 6″ long by 4.5″ wide which seems quite large, but once it shrinks it will give you a finished ornament measuring approximately 2½” by 2″

Step 2
Invite the kids to draw a fun Christmas picture onto the plastic with the Sharpie markers, then cut the ornament out. If you’re using the Christmas ball template, you’ll want to trace around the ornament with black sharpie to outline the details.

Step 3
Punch a hole into the top of the ornament with your hole punch. Depending on the thickness of the twine you have chosen, you may need to cut the hole larger with sharp scissors.

Step 4
Place a sheet of parchment paper onto a cookie sheet, and place your ornaments on top. In a preheated oven, bake the ornaments at 325 degrees for 2-3 minutes. Be sure to read the instructions that come with your Shrinky Dink Plastic Sheets. These are the instructions for the one’s we bought.

Step 5
As soon as the ornaments come out of the oven, use a spatula to press each one flat, while they are still warm. This will ensure that the ornament won’t have any curled edges.

Step 6
Thread some Christmas twine through the hole you made with the hole punch, and tie into a knot.

Aren’t these Shrinky Dink Ornaments the cutest thing ever?! Let me know in the comments if you give these a try, and be sure to post a photo of your creations in the comments of my Pinterest pin. I’d really love to see your creations!
Until next time

Thank you for your instructions. We are making these for my class as presents to their parents. I’m wondering if Mod Podge would work after they cooled down if I wanted to put their school picture on the back. Any thoughts?
You’re very welcome. I had so much fun making these! I love this idea for a parent gift from the kids. How thoughtful! I haven’t tried it, but I do think Mod Podge would work great for adhering their photo to the back of the ornament! Maybe give it a light sanding if the back is shiny, just so the photo will adhere better. Have so much fun with this! I’d love to see your creations! Feel free to post a photo on one of my Pinterest pins. Have a blessed holiday!
Can you use acrylic paint. I tried and some of the paint worked but the hand print with white did no.
I haven’t tried using acrylic paint. From what I’ve seen, you can use acrylic paint as long as it’s thin layers. I’m sure it’s worth a try
