Happy weekend friends! I trust you’ve had a great week and are ready to relax and enjoy some creative time with the kids. With fall just around the corner it’s a great time to start thinking about some easy autumn kids crafts. Today I’m excited to show you how to make Melted Crayon Leaf Art.
I have such fond memories of making these melted crayon leaves when I was a kid. Sitting around the kitchen table working on craft projects was one of my favorite parts of childhood. If you love crafting with the kids as much as I do, you’ll have to also try these Fall Leaf Suncatchers. They were so fun to make and add a beautiful fall touch to your window.
So, lets get into the art project! Gather up those old crayons, and let’s dive into this colorful and creative project.
Melted Crayon Leaf Art
What You Need
- black card stock or construction paper
- old crayons (in fall colors)
- scissors
- waxed paper
- sharpener
- iron
- glue
- FREE leaf template

What To Do
Step 1
Prep your crayons. With a sharpener, sharpen the crayons to get shavings of the colors you want to use. I made separate piles of each color on a sheet of waxed paper.

Step 2
Fold a sheet of black cardstock and cut into a square for a smaller leaf, or leave the cardstock folded in half for a larger leaf. Gather some leaves and trace them onto the black cardstock, or hand draw leaves, or use the free leaf template I created for you. (yes, I traced leaves from my yard and made them into templates….ha ha)

Step 3
Cut out the leaf pattern, cutting through both sides of the cardstock

Step 4
Fold a piece of waxed paper, measure and cut it to fit inside the cardstock. Add the crayon shavings onto one side of the waxed paper, mixing the colors as you would like. Fold the other side of waxed paper over the shavings

Step 5
Use an iron to gently press the waxed paper to melt the crayon shavings. I placed the waxed paper square between two pieces of parchment paper so I wasn’t ironing directly on the waxed paper crayons, and barely pressed the iron down. It melts very fast from the steam of the iron.

Step 6
Once the waxed paper has cooled, glue it inside the black cardstock

They’re so pretty hanging in the window. The kids will love making these. Have fun crafting friends!
Until next time
