DIY Valentines Wreath

Good morning Crafters! Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, so I wanted to show you a super EASY DIY Valentines Wreath that you can make for your front door.

I love having a wreath for every occassion don’t you? My problem is finding a way to store all my wreaths! I live in a tiny townhouse with limited storage space…..so if anyone has a storage solution PLEEEEASE let me know!

Don’t you feel that a beautiful wreath makes your home cozy and inviting? Burlap wreaths are so simple to make. This only took me around 30 minutes to put together. You can even get some of your supplies at the Dollar Store as well which makes this wreath very economical to make. Burlap wreaths are so versatile. You can easily add different ribbon throughout the burlap to change the look of your wreath for various occasions.

Let’s gather our supplies and get into the tutorial!

  • 4 inch burlap roll (I used 2 rolls for an 18 inch wreath form)
  • 4 inch red burlap roll (1 roll)
  • craft wire or small zip ties
  • accent valentine ribbon (1.5 rolls)
  • valentine embellishment (optional)
  • scissors

What To Do

Step 1:

Fold the end of the burlap roll, stick a piece of wire or zip tie in the end of the burlap and attach to one of the posts on the under side of the wreath form.

Step 2:

Turn the wreath over, right side facing up. Gather a small amount of burlap and start pushing it through the two outside wires on the frame. Pull it through until it’s around 3-4 inches high or desired height. Twist burlap underneath to change direction. This is loop #1.

Gather another small amount of burlap and weave into the middle two wires. Pull through and twist underneath. This is loop #2

Step 4:

Gather another small amount of burlap and weave into the inner two wires. Pull through and twist underneath to change direction. This is loop #3.

Continue weaving these 3 loops over and over for your entire wreath. I make 6 loops per section.

What to Do When Your Burlap Roll Runs Out

On the back side of the wreath form, fold the end of burlap that has run out, and fold over the end of the new burlap roll, insert a piece of wire or zip tie through both pieces of burlap to join them and twist. Hide the knot in the back of the wreath.

How to Add Accent Color Burlap or Ribbon

I added my accent colors AFTER all my burlap was completed. I’m sure there are other ways to do this, but I’ll show you how I did it.

Step 1:

Take the red burlap roll and fold over the end, insert a wire or zip tie and attach it to the under side of the wreath form. This part takes a bit of digging through the burlap to find the wire. Once it’s attached, find a space on the outside two wires and pull it through just as you’ve done with with other burlap. Continue to weave the red burlap through various spots on the wreath. I didn’t have a particular pattern for this. I just eyeballed it, and weaved in the red where I thought it looked best.

End the red burlap by folding over the end, inserting a wire or zip tie and attaching it to the frame.

Step 2:

Attach the accent ribbon with wire to the underside of the wreath and repeat the process of weaving the ribbon through as in Step 1. Again, I didn’t have a pattern for where the ribbon would go. I just eyeballed it and weaved it through where I thought it looked best.

Step 3:

Add a Valentines embellishment on the wreath. I strung some wooden hearts across the center of the wreath. You could also add a bow if desired.
