Happy weekend friends! Hope you had a great week and are ready to relax and reset this weekend. I’ve been tackling some much needed spring cleaning this weekend, and for the life of me, I don’t know why I haven’t shared this DIY All Purpose Cleaner with you yet. It’s been my ‘go to’ DIY cleaner for years now, and I’m always amazed at how well it works and how cheap and easy it is to make.

As the days grow longer and the air fills with the sweet scent of blooming flowers, many of us feel inspired to throw open the windows, roll up our sleeves, and give our homes a good old-fashioned scrub down. It’s a fresh start for our living spaces and a chance to say goodbye to the dust and clutter that accumulated over the winter months.

But let’s be real—Spring cleaning can be a daunting task. Cleaning any day can be a daunting task, especially if you work outside of the home! Anyone else find it difficult to keep up with regular cleaning after you’ve worked for eight hours?!!

Anyway, you will love how cost effective and easy this DIY all purpose cleaner is to make. I keep a bottle under the sink in each bathroom and kitchen for quick clean ups.. It’s great for cleaning tubs, sinks and just about everything else. In a pinch, I’ve even used it to clean the bathroom mirrors. Ohhhhh, and the shine on the bathroom tiles and tub……simply amazing!

So let’s break down the ingredients and it’s benefits

Benefits of Blue Dawn Dishsoap

1. Effective Grease Cutter

Blue Dawn dish soap is renowned for its ability to cut through grease effectively. The soap contains surfactants that break down and emulsify fats and oils, making it easier to wash them away. This makes it an excellent component for cleaning greasy kitchen surfaces, stovetops, and other areas prone to oily residues.

2. Gentle on Surfaces

Despite its powerful cleaning abilities, Blue Dawn is gentle enough to use on a variety of surfaces. It is designed to be tough on grime yet safe for use on delicate items including most fabrics. This versatility means it can be used in DIY cleaners without risking damage to most household surfaces.

3. Versatile Cleaning Power

Blue Dawn can be combined with other ingredients to enhance its cleaning power. When mixed with vinegar, baking soda, or hydrogen peroxide, Blue Dawn can tackle a wider range of cleaning tasks. For example, a mixture of Dawn and vinegar creates a powerful solution for soap scum and hard water stains.

Benefits of Vinegar

1. Natural Disinfectant

Vinegar has antimicrobial properties that help kill bacteria and viruses. Acetic acid, the main component of vinegar, is effective in reducing the number of pathogens on surfaces, making it a natural disinfectant. This is particularly useful for cleaning kitchen and bathroom areas where germs are prevalent.

2. Deodorizing Properties

Vinegar neutralizes unpleasant odors The acid in vinegar breaks down volatile compounds that cause bad smells. Using vinegar in a cleaner can help eliminate odors from garbage bins, pet areas, and other sources of unwanted smells in the home.

3. Effective Cleaning Agent

Vinegar effectively cuts through grease and grime, as well as dissolves mineral deposits like limescale and hard water stains. The acetic acid in vinegar helps break down greasy residues on stovetops, countertops, and kitchen appliances. It also dissolves calcium and magnesium deposits that accumulate in kettles, coffee makers, and around faucets and showerheads.

Both ingredients are relatively inexpensive and widely available. Compared to many commercial cleaners, making your own DIY recipes can save a lot of money. A small amount goes a long way, making it a cost-effective option for household cleaning. I keep a large jug Blue Dawn and vinegar on hand at all times!

Do not use vinegar on natural stone surfaces like granite or marble, as the acid can etch the stone.
